SLINEX 2024: Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise

The bilateral naval exercise SLINEX 2024 (Sri Lanka–India Exercise) will be conducted under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command. The exercise will be held in two phases – the Harbour Phase and the Sea Phase.

About SLINEX

Initiation: First conducted in 2005, SLINEX has evolved into a significant bilateral naval exercise between India and Sri Lanka, promoting regional stability and cooperation.

Objectives:

  • To reinforce maritime ties between the two nations.
  • To ensure a safe, secure, and rules-based maritime environment.

2024 Edition Highlights: The exercise will include both Harbour and Sea Phases, offering opportunities for professional and operational engagement.

Phases of SLINEX 2024

Harbour Phase:

  • Focus: Strengthening mutual understanding through professional and social exchanges.

Sea Phase: It will conduct activities such as

  • Special Forces operations.
  • Gun firings and communication drills.
  • Seamanship practices, navigation evolutions, and helicopter operations.

Participating Units

India:

  • INS Sumitra: A Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel of the Eastern Fleet.
  • A Special Forces team from the Indian Navy.

Sri Lanka:

  • SLNS Sayura: An Offshore Patrol Vessel.
  • An embarked Special Forces team.
