SWITCH Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland has launched two low-floor electric city buses-EiV12 and E1-equipped with chassis-mounted batteries. The ‘SWITCH EiV12’ is claimed to India’s first low-floor electric city bus, marking a significant leap in the country’s electric vehicle (EV) sector. In addition to the Indian launch, the SWITCH E1 for the European market was virtually flagged off in Spain. Both buses are fully designed, developed, and manufactured in India.

SWITCH EiV12
It features a floor-mounted battery (scalable up to 400 kilowatt-hour (kWh)) for better stability and comfort. Its modular design supports both drive configurations and flexible door placements.
It has been indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured for urban city commutes, offering global standards in performance, safety, and reliability.
It can accommodate up to 39 passengers and also includes a wheelchair ramp, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, and real-time vehicle monitoring
SWITCH E1
It has in-wheel motors, a flat gangway, and a triple-door layout for easy access. It can accommodate up to 93 passengers, offering a spacious and comfortable ride.
Note: India’s domestic electric city bus market is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21% by 2030, with EV penetration projected to reach 70%.
